Clinical Hypnotherapy

If you have any misconceptions about hypnotherapy, then they may well originate from seeing or reading about stage hypnotists who entertain audiences with participants performing all manner of bizarre things. In reality, stage hypnotism and clinical hypnotherapy are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state which we enter into on a daily basis more frequently than you might imagine. Whenever you drive to and from a familiar destination on auto-pilot or find yourself day dreaming, you are experiencing light forms of waking hypnosis. You drift in and out of this relaxed, yet focused state quite naturally during the course of each and every day and probably give it very little thought whatsoever.

So what is the value of hypnotherapy from a therapeutic perspective? Here we are simply accessing the natural state of hypnosis, where we can give the conscious mind a break and work with your subconscious mind to weed out unwanted negative thoughts and habits and plant the seeds to bring about desirable changes in behaviour and attitude.

In my work with women who are trying to conceive, to relax in pregnancy and birth with a greater sense of calm and control, hypnosis is the perfect tool to seed of positive suggestion, thereby invoking more favourable thought patterns to free the body to work to the best of its abilities to aid conception and when the time comes, to get on with the natural role of labour and birth.

Hypnosis is also a self-induced state, and as your therapist, my role is to guide you into that mental relaxation and help you make the changes you want. Contrary to popular belief, you cannot be made to do something that goes against your core beliefs and values whilst in a relaxed hypnotic state. You may also feel reassured to know that you will easily leave this altered state of awareness in the event that you need or choose do so.
