Thought Field Therapy

Thought Field Therapy, more commonly recognised as TFT, is a remarkably subtle yet profoundly effective therapy developed by a leading American psychologist Dr Roger Callahan.  It has been developed over a twenty-five year period and offers unprecedented results in treating a variety of emotional problems including fears, phobias, anxieties, trauma and obsessive behaviour patterns.

Many women who seek treatment are struggling to keep the lid on difficult and challenging emotions. Whether they are struggling to conceive, fearful and anxious about pregnancy, silently dreading childbirth or feeling emotionally vulnerable following a difficult birth, their emotions require sensitive handling and TFT clears these emotions, limiting the prolonged emotional overwhelm sometimes experienced in other therapies. This gentle therapy is also invaluable for men who are often hesitant about considering therapies to clear emotional issues.

TFT works with the energy meridians familiar in acupuncture and uses tapping points, in specific sequences which serve as access codes to eliminate the emotional charge tied to a traumatic memory, behaviour or habit for example.

Treatment requires a client to think about their presenting issue and whilst tuning to a negative ‘thought field’, to identify and scale the emotion they attribute to that issue, such as anger, grief, fear, intimidation etc. They are then guided through the tapping of a series of points on the face, upper torso and hands to delete the emotional layer associated with the presenting issue. It is important to understand that past memories remain intact, however the emotional layer and associated trauma is dissolved in therapy, enabling the client to recall or think forward to an event without feeling overwhelming negative emotions.

To the healthy sceptic, this may all sound a little unusual and implausible to say the least, however with success rates around the 90% mark, this therapy proves itself very comfortably in practice and a skilled specialist can use this therapeutic tool with precision to clear unwanted emotions and clear the effects of trauma with greater care.
