Fears & Phobias

From the moment your pregnancy is confirmed, a whole new set of experiences spring up before your very eyes. Suddenly, you are visiting your local surgery for regular antenatal checks and becoming more acquainted with your hospital for routine scans. These events coupled with nine months of fascinating, and at times alarming changes to your body and emotions, can cause a mixture of fears, phobias and anxieties to surface without warning.

So much change combined with your pregnancy hormones can lead to feelings of overwhelm and overload. All sorts of things can trigger a rise in anxiety levels, from the prospect of having blood taken for a needle phobic, to the fear of loosing control and dignity for a woman approaching childbirth for the first time. So, whatever your fears and anxieties are, if they are causing you distress, then they are robbing you of a relaxed and enjoyable pregnancy.

If you are one of a small group of women experiencing extreme anxiety about pregnancy and birth you may be tokophobic. Many factors can contribute to this condition and these become evident through treatment.

Thankfully, clearing these unwanted emotions is painless, brief and successful in more than eighty percent of cases. So, whether you react adversely to the thought of needles and blood, or are in a panic about antenatal scan results or pain during labour, help is at hand.
