Fertility Results
Lynette called me the week after receiving the results of fertility tests. IVF treatment had been advised as their only option moving forward and the shock of this news coupled with a great deal of anxiety about what was involved in IVF treatment had the couple feeling very stressed and upset.
After a long chat over the phone, Lynette decided to visit initially with her husband, so that we could get a more complete picture and clear some issues for him before working together to clear the emotions which were making her day-to-day life very difficult to cope with.
Once we had cleared the emotions for Lynette’s husband which were rooted in feelings of failure and anxiety about the financial implications of IVF cycles, we made a start on Lynette.
Lynette was riddled with guilt for waiting until her late thirties to start a family and she was genuinely terrified of what was in store with IVF treatment. Lynette had a needle phobia which caused a great deal of trauma with her first set of tests and she really was worried about how she would cope with IVF.
For the remainder of that first session and the next one, we cleared all the emotions of sadness, feelings of failure, fear of the unknown and beliefs that they might not be successful or be able to afford many cycles. We also cleared the needle phobia so that treatment would be manageable.
Once Lynette was feeling calm and optimistic about IVF, she opted for a support programme to ensure that she remained in an optimal emotional state throughout her IVF journey. Her husband’s work necessitated a fair bit of travel and the support gave both of them the peace of mind, especially during the two week wait.
Whilst Lynette’s first IVF cycle wasn’t successful, she took it very much in her stride. We dissolved the emotions of disappointment and failure and focused on the benefits of feeling more familiar with the protocol involved. This cycle had involved a great number of firsts and the realisation that all the emotional clearing and phobia work to had got her through an IVF cycle, which was an achievement in itself.
Lynette was overjoyed at achieving success on their second attempt and we continued to work together right up to the birth. We navigated all the highs and lows and her confidence increased week by week.
Lynette opted for a hospital birth and an epidural which had always been her preference providing she could overcome her dread of needles. She birthed a very healthy baby girl and is now enjoying motherhood immensely.
